You are absolutely right. The sooner that China and Russia realize that it's not about hegemony but about survival, the sooner we will all be on the same page. Second rate powers such as France will quickly follow if the big 3 get it right and, hopefully, don't follow Orwell or the Brave New World.

We have been guilty though and not just this administration. We were quick to jump on the Russians for Chechnia. I don't know enough of the arguments pro/con in that region, but it seems that they use terror as a technique.

In my mind, those who use terror, i.e., targeting or threatening civilians as a military tool, should be deemed terrorists and should be, ipso facto, legitimate targets for elimination for and by all civilized nations.
