that does not add up. Population of Russia in 1917 when purges started was 90 mil. By the 1940s it was mostly all over short of post war trans-cybirean railroad and few things like that. Population of Russia by the beginning of the war was around 115 mil.

22 million died during WWII and I think someone added it to my estimate of 25mil which would be 47mil

re: Alexander Solzhenitsyn used more or less the same statistical methods as Conquest.

Solzhenitsyn is simply insane, don't take that guy seriously. BTW his knowledge of tortures came from his personal experience but not as a prisoner as he became one at one point but as NKVD agent who conducted the tortures.
