Hi Karen, this entire issue of left wing mainstream bias and just plain making up the news got me thinking....

Years ago, I didn't buy into the media bias issue and believed we were mostly seeing/hearing an accurate description of events. Then I began to suspect, then I had a personal experience which completely altered my perception.

I believe it was 1994 when Hillary Clinton was going through quite a turmoil for her attempted take-over of the health care industry in America. I followed the ups and downs of the issue pretty closely. One day she came to Seattle and held a rally, our local KVI radio station decided to hold a counter protest. For the first time in my life I attended a "right wing" rally. :)

It was quite an experience. Mostly there were working class people who were protesting, women pushing babies in strollers etc. All in all, probably 400-500 right wingers showed up. We started hooping and hollering when Hillary began to speak. I was standing maybe 40 feet from the podium and you couldn't hear Hillary say one word. The entire event was like that. Her speech lasted maybe 15 minutes, then she rushed off clearly shaken by what happened.

That evening I watched the news in anticipation of what they would show of the event. I watched all three local news broadcasts.

1. The noise of the crowd was completely drowned out. All you could hear was Hillary talking confidently.
2. They chose to show one long haired freakish looking protestor as representative of those who were protesting.
3. They only showed close ups of Hillary supporters who numbered maybe 80, making the crowd look far larger then it actually was.

After that event, my perception of the news has completely changed. I believe much of it is altered or just plain manufactured with a severe left wing slant.

Mike
