I thought about this some today. Not being a lawyer, I have no idea what the law requires. I think had I been the hospital ER, I would have treated her for the immediate problem without rocking the boat (on the grounds that medically it was necessary), stabilized her, and then called in hospital administration to speak with the husband, informing him that acquiescing to his demands violated hospital policy and if he wanted to transfer his wife, that would be fine. Otherwise, she would get the
available and qualified personnel, regardless of race. The responsibility would then rest on the husband for the decision.

As for harm, I believe that we shouldn't allow that kind of discrimination to govern decisions. It was a professional insult to the staff for the hospital to go along with this request. The couple may have the right to their bigotry, but not to expect others to abide by it. In the same way K said that Mojo has to accept consequences if he flies above the radar, so does this couple.
