"Save" saves the work that has been done on an existing file. If you are processing a lot of info in word or excel, then hit "save" periodically to preserve the data entered. If the computer should crash or the program accidently get shut down, you will have all the data up to the last SAVE.
"SAVE AS" is used when you are entering data in a new file and need to name the file or if you wish to save the file on another drive (if the file is on the C drive and you wish to save it on the A drive, then SAVE AS, change drive to A, and the name should remain the same. I use SAVE AS if i am working on a file and want to save the new data in a new file and yet keep the old data in the original file.
if your hubby had hit SAVE during the entry of data, he would have preserved what he had entered to that point. sounds like the hard drive was full and couldn't handle the last bit of data. Delete some files or get a biggger hard drive. larry
