Malcolm - Lots of double counting when modern life intersets old statistical methods. Where do all the Corporate Travel cards get counted for those $1500 coast to coast airfares ? Corporate expenses get counted as personal debt.

Mortgages can also be multiple counted when they are sold to Fannie Mae and someone buys their debt.

When I have time I want to write more about what I think is happening with the trade balance and capitve overseas subsidiaries of US companies...

End result is we may not be as close to the point of no return as many think....
