Not surprising that you would reversion his referal that way. You have gone to some pretty great lengths to find something to hate about the guy.

You are so committed to this guy that you think I have to go out of my way to dislike him. Or that I would want to. Why would I want to? How long have you known me? I'm always the champion of the underdog. Find me a minority and I'll stick up for it. I adore oddballs. Why else would I hang out here? You're really wrong if you think I didn't want to like him. Even now I'm still trying to find ways to make some space in this world for him, despite him. I know I won't persuade you, but I just can't let that assertion of yours stand any longer.

He's turned into a royal jerk. He started out hopeful to find an opportunity to practice his freedom of conscience. So far so good. But his refusal to make even a pretense of accommodation, to even listen to concerns and alternatives wouldn't endear him to anyone. He seems utterly insensitive to the reality that there are clients out there who have interests and principles and feelings as well. He just wants to do things his way and damn the torpedos. He thinks he's above the law. He thinks he's smarter than his professional association. He thinks he knows better than his clients what's best for them. And he thinks the whole world revolves around his precious beliefs. On top of that, he seems to think he's hot stuff. Yeah, what's not to like?

In his favor, he seems hardworking and earnest. He seems committed, independent and responsible. Polite. And he probably doesn't have any ill will for anyone. He probably pays his taxes in full and on time and doesn't drive much over the speed limit.

Would I want to life next door to a guy like that. I might swap him even for the cranky downstairs neighbor I'm always complaining about but probably not.

As for rubbing me the wrong way, I don't react to much, but I do react to being shut down and excluded because of group identity. I experienced discrimination a lot in my life. I've told some stories here. I don't like it one bit. So yes it rubs me the wrong way when someone cavalierly dismisses the damage it does. Being polite when you're pointing to the colored water fountain ain't nice in my book. So, yes, I framed his dismissal of me in a negative way. Because that's the way I would react to it. There's no way to do that nicely.
