z i totally agree with you on this..

well, they (or we) would be few IF the licensing granting requirements would be real tests to see if "we" can operate our own motor vehicles.

Therefore... the carnage would be reduced because the actual licensed operators would be less moronic in their actions.

but it ain't gonna happen

Having said that, I am not "demanding" that "all drivers" operate at 120 mph at all times. Drive where you feel comfortable and mind others...

more agreement...but the point is

see *above*

we will always have a contingent of legally licensed incompetent drivers..

i'm just looking at the odds...

granted, there is nothing stopping the incompetent from driving 120 mph....*except* for the potential of civil lawsuit (because laws were broken and damages ensued) or jail.

so there were always be the incompetents who, no matter what the law, will break it and cause death or other forms of loss....

and at the same time you will have the incompetent drivers who, out of concern or fear of financial or legal repercussions will drive a bit slower...less reckless per their ability...

it may be marginal, but if some lives or limbs are saved, is it not worth the speed restriction?

is there any real reason we should drive 120 mph just because we *can*?

yes, some of us can, and can quite proficiently....perhaps those sufficiently motivated will all move to montana <vbg>
