REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 2003--Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC), leading supplier of Intelligent Storage(TM) solutions for the open systems market, announced today that it has signed a joint marketing agreement with HP around media storage solutions designed for the rich media content distribution market.
Yahoo! JAPAN, which operates Japan's most frequently accessed website, has just completed an installation of the new system to optimize that company's streaming content management and distribution.

Under the agreement, ADIC and HP will explore sales and marketing initiatives centering on the HP Media Storage Solution, which provides superior resource utilization and streamlined data management to organizations that broadcast rich media and streaming Web content. The Media Storage Solution is a new offering that integrates HP servers and storage with ADIC's StorNext Management Suite data management software to provide a high-performance, file sharing architecture for storage area networks (SANs).

The Yahoo! JAPAN installation is used to simplify the management of streamed content. Instead of storing a copy of each rich media file on each of the site's many distribution servers--the traditional way of managing this kind of content--the new system uses a SAN to give all distribution servers common high-speed access to the same content. The solution couples high performance with greater efficiency, and it simplifies management by providing faster content updating.

"We are pleased to formalize our already strong cooperative working relationship with HP and to extend this important technology to an expanding customer base," said Bill Yaman, ADIC Vice President, Software. "HP is providing both technology leadership for this rapidly growing market and the overall systems expertise to create and support scalable, standards-based, high performance solutions for rich media distribution. This solution integrates HP servers, storage, and appliance technology with ADIC data management software to give users a better solution -- one that creates many high performance data streams from a single, easily managed pool of common files."

"The success at Yahoo! JAPAN demonstrates how HP and ADIC can cooperate to deliver real business value for the customer. With simplified management of streamed content, Yahoo! Japan is more efficient, more agile, and better able to adapt its rich media assets to market need," said Gabriele DiPiazza, Worldwide Director, Rich Media Solutions, HP Network and Services Provider Business Unit. "ADIC's StorNext File System provides a foundation that allows this type of environment to easily mix Windows, UNIX, and Linux hosts. The integrated StorNext Storage Manager lets customers manage data location on different media types to meet Quality of Service needs."

Designed for data-intensive SAN environments, StorNext® Management Suite (SNMS) reduces the time and total cost of managing SAN data. SNMS integrates two powerful components, StorNext File System and StorNext Storage Manager, to provide Total Data Life Management. With SNMS, data -- throughout its lifetime -- is always accessible and protected based on levels of service defined by users. The result is a scalable, high-performance data management solution that optimizes the use of SAN storage while ensuring the long-term safety and recoverability of data. SNMS supports Linux, Windows, and UNIX platforms.
