UTP Vendor Alert #2003-52 - October 6, 2003
Revised Issue Volume Information from NASDAQ

The NASDAQ Stock Market® inadvertently underreported its share volume for the period of Monday, August 25, 2003, to Wednesday, September 17, 2003. NASDAQ’s problem was caused by a code bug, which improperly flagged trades from seven order entry firms as non-media reportable. Under its marketplace rules, NASDAQ® should have reported the trades to the securities information processor (SIP) for inclusion on the UTP Trade Data FeedSM (UTDFSM).

In total, NASDAQ underreported its volume by approximately 35 million shares over the 17-day trading period. If the trades had been properly disseminated, the average daily volume should have been approximately 2 million shares higher on UTDF.

To rectify the situation, NASDAQ has prepared a MS-Excel spreadsheet with the correct market center and consolidated volume for all issues affected by this code bug. NASDAQ requests that all market data vendors use this spreadsheet to correct their historical volume information for the 17-day period. To access the file, please click on the View/Print button below to access the revised issue volume information.
