this post is full of non sequitors. I know you are from the area and you must know about Oracle and their hiring practices. The fact is this company pays very little in California taxes (due to breaks) and they bring in THOUSANDS of foreign nationals every year utilizing a bunch of scam "work visa" programs which allow them to undercut labor rates, pay no taxes and in some cases intimidate workers. As someone who lives in the same county as oracle, my concerns are: 1.security: what kind of "background checks" are done against this huge offshore labor pool, I am particularly concerned about Pakistanis, and I'd love to know what kind of assurance we have that Oracle isn't bringing a boatload of terrorists by way of SFO. You know what I think? I don't think there IS any sort of security screening going on, other than the burden hoisted upon the state of California to try to figure out who the hell these thousands of foreigners shuttling in and out of the system are. 2.Healthcare and police/fire:The L1s are paid in offshore bank accounts + room and board. Who pays for their services. I think it is me, NO THANKS. 3.Local college utilization:Oracle is encouraging training at local community colleges. Their workforce is temporary visa based. How is the burden on the college system funded, is oracle paying into it? I took a Java class a year ago and the entire class was full of Oracle "employees" <wink wink>- Oracle needs to provide its own training to support its sweatshop labor practices, not dump it on the CA taxpayer. 4.Wage deflation thanks to foreign nationals being brought in by the boatload. No explanation needed. Good things about Oracle as it pertains to California: -about 5 guys at the top make hundreds of millions per year and that helps the local economy... I guess. Maybe Larry can offshore his gardening activity. As far as your comments as to what is a republican, if being a republican means supporting sweatshop labor and the massive screwage of the California taxpayer endangering security and the entire economy then you can keep the title although its hard to believe that even you could be so stupid as to fall for the Oracle line of BS. I'v got an idea- you are a county or so downwind of me no? How about we take oracle and its humongous foreign labor force and dump it on YOUR county? A lot of great jobs there where foreign women are raped and intimidated by their foreign managers, maybe your family members can get jobs there.
