The LA Times' coverage and attempted manipulation of the election is an example of why campaign finance reform in its current form is a bad idea. They can say whatever they want about a candidate right up until the day of the election, but under the law, citizen groups would be unable to respond. The law ties the hands of citizens but puts no check on the media.
