John...what if you decided to run for office (any one)... .and a former student, or any number of other possibilities, decided to charge you had groped them in 1976. And the charge is aided and abetted by your local home town newspaper. 1 week before your election. Now, you know you didn't do anything wrong. And the woman (or man--who knows these days) hadn't made a police report about the so called incident. What would you do to counter this? Especially at the last minute. And then there's all the charges of sexual harassment sitting out there.
