Toward a Secure and Prosperous Future
Opportunities for Materials R&D and Critical Applications

Organizer and Session Chair:
James Salsgiver, Immediate Past Chair, ASM Technical Programming Board

Sponsored By: ASM Technical Programming Board

"What is a government without energy?
And what is a man without energy?
Nothing -- nothing at all."
Mark Twain, June 1860

In recent years, the ASM Technical Programming Board has emphasized the development of energy-related programming for our society's major annual technical gathering, Materials Solutions. Not only has this initiative provided leading-edge information for ASM members, it has also served to highlight directions for future materials R&D in a field of vital importance to national interests.

This year, our Plenary Session reflects the theme for the entire Materials Solutions event, while emphasizing the importance of energy-related technologies -- both proven and innovative -- that will ensure our future security and prosperity.

Top executives from the DOE and the National Energy Technology Laboratory will describe the tremendous degree of responsibility on their shoulders (and the extent of the money and resources available, particularly for fuel cell development). On the other side, senior management from GM, Alcoa and Allegheny Technologies will describe how industry is working to turn high expectations into reality.

In addition to the Plenary Session, this year's Materials Solutions Conference will also feature a significant core symposium on fuel cells, sponsored by ASM's Energy, Special Materials, and Transportation Sectors. Join us for an "electrifying" technical discussion and networking opportunity.
