Altachem Pharma Inc. relocates to Edmonton Research Park

Altachem Pharma Ltd. (AAF: TSX Venture Exchange) has signed an agreement to locate its head office and main research facility at Edmonton Research Park, operated by Economic Development Edmonton (EDE). The agreement took effect Oct. 1, 2003.

Edmonton-based Altachem Pharma Ltd. is committed to the development and commercialization of new pharmaceutical products to enrich and prolong the lives of people. The corporation is developing a multi-tiered, integrated approach for the treatment of HIV/AIDS and cancer using non-toxic therapeutic products and adjunct therapies. The lead products of the corporation are based on its two proprietary drugs: ACP-HIP and HB. The corporation's manufacturing facilities located in Edmonton, Alberta and Shanghai China are certified compliant with internationally recognized quality system standards.

The company will occupy 12,450 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art biotech lab space at Research Centre One (RC-1), a multi-tenant facility at Edmonton Research Park available to growth-stage companies. RC-1 offers flexible space that can be configured to meet specific tenant needs. The space Altachem Pharma Ltd. will occupy was upgraded by EDE in 2000 to include biotechnology wet labs, space ventilation, a cold room and other research-oriented features, as well as office space.<1font size>

"EDE's investment in this facility has helped retain a world-class biotech company in Edmonton," says Allan Scott, EDE President and CEO. "With the addition of Altachem Pharma Ltd., Edmonton Research Park has the largest concentration of biotech companies in Alberta."

Biomira, Epsilon Chemicals, Kinetana, JAR Pharmaceuticals, KS Avicenna, CV Technologies, Agri-Genomics and the Alberta Research Council Life Sciences Division are also located at the park.

"We are pleased to locate our Edmonton facilities to RC-1 and take advantage of the advanced lab space this building offers," says Warren Jackson, President and CEO of Altachem Pharma Ltd. "Having this type of facility available in Edmonton is a major competitive advantage for our company."

Edmonton Research Park (ERP), established in 1980 and managed by Economic Development Edmonton since 1993, is integral to supporting innovation in Greater Edmonton. The park is currently home to 35 companies in 17 buildings occupying some 54,000 sq. metres (600,000 sq. ft.) of space.
