If Wilson's report was classified they would have prosecuted him for publishing the results in the New York Times under his own name. Why wasn't it classified, I have no idea. But you can't wrtie opeds about anything stamped Confidential or above as a government employee, current or former, unless you have permission from somewhere. Wilson was picked because he was a former ambassador to Niger, in a position to realize that the signatures on the alleged documents didn't match people who worked in Niger's foreign ministry when the documents were dated. Wilson helped to reveal a lie - which is the very purpose of intelligence. Politicians are the guilty parties who perpetuate lies and coverups for their own purposes. I am very sure about that.
