| What's happening in the Bush administration is reminiscent of Nixon's administration. White House only hears what it wants to hear. Kissinger told the state department, way back when, to rework a paper on the Pakistan/India situation because the recommendations they made, based on long time careful analysis, was not what the president wanted to hear. Same today, State had lots of info on Iraq (particularly necessary/recommended troop size, 250,000, in order to maintain civil order after Saddam's fall) that the White House ignored, now to its peril. Bush went with 150,000, and sure he won the war, but everything went to shit afterwards because he didn't plan for an afterwards. Bad planning, or rather a lack of planning. |
