Satellite is infrequently subject to brief outages in very heavy rain. Where I live we get a lot of fog and once in a while I'll lose the picture for a minute or so. But overall satellite has been far more reliable over the three years I've had it than cable ever was. Also, Directv has an interactive onscreen tv guide that allows you to surf through the whole schedule of all channels (I get about 150 channels) for every hour up to 36 hours ahead. Also, if you are surfing and land on a movie that looks interesting, you can push a button on your remote and complete information about the movie comes on the screen. Awesome, and vastly superior to cable.
