I just read the IDTI 1997 annual report that indicates their % of SRAM remuneration decreased from 46% of their total in fiscal 1996 to 32% in fiscal 1997. Over the same interval, their absolute # of SRAMs sold INCREASED by 15%, so they are not exactly out of the SRAM business.

The report also said their fiscal outlook was expectd to be significantly better in 1998 and that when fully built out, their production capability would support sales of $1.5 billion/year - about 2.5 times their current level. That long term optimism was tempered by plenty of short term market condition and ramp-up issues caution.

They said they are currently working with .35 micron technology but will soon have the ability to go to .20-.25 micron. They made a big deal of their increasing involvement in the communication sector but interestingly did not mention the C6 processor at all that I could find. The closest reference I found to it was one sentence about developing products that would allow them to enter markets they do not currently serve.

Oh - and they said some unnamed semiconductor manufacturer(s) has(have) informed them that they may be infringing on certain patents and that they are negotiating licensing issues with these parties. They did not name the company(ies).

I size the whole thing up as short term scary - long term awesome. When the next real semiconductor upcycle hits, this company's share price will go shockingly high, IMO. I do not think that day will be seen in calendar 1997 though (my own nonprofessional opinion only).
