Bombardier: City of Leipzig, Germany Opts for Flexity
Trams

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--OCTOBER 10, 2003 - 11:32 ET
Bombardier Transportation welcomes the notice
given by the supervisory board of the transport authority of the
city of Leipzig, Germany, to award Bombardier an order for the
supply of twelve low-floor trams, valued at approximately $63
million Cdn (40 million Euros). The contract, which is scheduled
to be signed in the upcoming weeks, includes an option for twelve
further vehicles. Delivery of the Bombardier(i) Flexity(i)
Classic trams is expected to take place from August 2005 to May
2006.

The 45-metre vehicles will be built at Bombardier's German
facility of Bautzen. The trams' Bombardier(i) Mitrac(i)
propulsion system will be provided by its site in Mannheim, also
in Germany.

"This contract is a continuation of our long-standing and
successful business relations with a future-oriented transport
authority. With our Flexity Classic low-floor trams, LVB has
chosen a reliable concept which is especially tailored to the
requirements of the city of Leipzig", says Walter Grawenhoff,
President, Light Rail Vehicles, Bombardier Transportation.

The vehicles, which have a modular low-floor design, offer
comfortable entrance areas and a transparent interior with flat
screens for travel information. In addition, the air-conditioned
cars feature video cameras for improved safety. With a total
capacity for 187 passengers (106 seated, 81 standees), the
vehicles are ideal for high-density lines. Thanks to their
conventional bogies, the low-floor trams will run extremely
smooth with very low levels of noise through the city by the
Pleisse River.

The trams' proven technology is especially popular with transport
authorities in Germany. Cities that have chosen Bombardier
Transportation's Flexity Classic vehicles include Kassel, Essen,
Schwerin, Dessau, Dresden, Halle, Frankfurt/Main and Bremen in
Germany, as well as Krakow in Poland.
