Thought I would take a crack at the " US personal savings rate" while I'm talking about bad numbers. Note that the calculation does NOT include personal capital gains ! This will cause it to miss about a Trillion dollars or so.... ALso, under ground economy doesn't show up. Whole idea of adding up a bunch of large numbers (incomes) then subtracting large numbers to get a smaller number (saving) is flawed - amplifies errors enormously. bea.doc.gov This means J6P is not as deep the hole as thought. **************** Would some one post a link to the "hedonic deflator" effect on productivity numbers ?
