What if Arnold had decided NOT to enter the fray (apparently he changed his mind on stage during the Leno show) and the green party candidate got 10% of the vote and won. That's what I mean, the mechanism is very odd.

If pigs had wings they'd fly. Why don't you waste your time worrying about something that actually happens, eh?

Bottom line is the system worked perfectly. If you are worried about it in the future, then make changes now before it might not work so well.

FWIW, Riordon would have run if Arnold didn't announce. Most of us wanted him the first time but it seems Arnold probably got more crossovers from the Dems.
