Socialism is the first step towards communism. Take from the rich, give it to the government, take from the middle class give it to the government. The government becomes the rich class but doesn't know how to efficiently invest in R&D to enhance standards of living. Instead government protects the jobs and products of yesteryear which are obsolete, uncompetitive and result in a lower standard of living. Socialism is the road to communism and poverty for all rather than a few.
