What applications do you anticipate for voice?

Why would anyone want voice recognition at home?

IBM and others have found that a useful app must not only recognize a voice, but it must also understand the speaker. For instance, IBM has a product used only by radiologists. It understands their lingo. There are probably other knowledge domains under development, but the development expenses can only be recovered by selling an expensive product to doctors, lawyers, etc.

A major problem with voice recognition is that a user will probably be mobile and want a handheld PC running Windows CE. Most of those machines are non-Intel RISC processors.

I think the biggest possible driver for the PC industry would be increased bandwidth. Microsoft's billion dollar investment in a cable company is a good start, and I hope Intel pursues similar ventures. It's too bad they exited the cable modem business.
