If we didn't have regulations we'd be Pakistan or Mexico.
The corporations would join with the politicians and rip us all off, pollute us, grab the public lands and develop them for personal profit, sell us shoddy goods, use more and more false advertising, etc.

Never forget the S+L debacle and the phony energy crisis, the two biggest-ever ripoffs in history, both brought to us by deregulation. The energy thieves haven't even been punished yet because the Bushies are and have always been in bed with them. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Cheney helped engineer the phony energy crisis to help get elected and to rip off Democratic California, setting up Davis for the fall.
