Rice Fails to Repair Rifts, Officials Say

Extremely interesting piece. I've argued that as the Bush administration loses credibility over Iraq, that will snowball to other areas. I'm tempted to see this critique of Rice's role in the administration in that light.

But I think it's more likely that it's simply reversion to the norm. This is the normal way papers like the Washington Post and the New York Times approach a sitting administration. Find fissures of one sort or another, talk to everyone who will answer the phone, and both report the results and give us some analysis. It's not anti-Bush as no doubt some will say. Just journalism finding its mission after losing it with an overreaction to 9-11. Sort of the world righting itself.
