I'm not really interested in D'Souza's reading of Kant, but what does stick is the whole "brights" deal. I've found that many, if not most, atheists are just angry folk who have some beef with religion or religious folks. They often also suffer from the "little man" syndrome, where they must belittle others to enlarge their own self-importance. So you get "brights" which, I think the author is correct, does seem to be full of "little man" reasoning. Usenet religion and atheism groups are full of em. And they seem to be the mirror image of the "Bible Thumper".

I'm an atheist, and I came to it over a long period of introspection. Those people embarrass me, frankly. There's room enough for everyone to enjoy their own little private conceits, IMO. Between atheists yelling it's stupid to have Faith, and the religionists yelling we're all gonna burn in hell, it's enough to give a man heartburn.
