>>Someone who's been in this industry a long time told me Seamans has been using that "One-third CAP, one-third DMT, one-third what works" line since time began. Perhaps someone should ask him to up-date his quip.<<

<<does the age of the remark or the number of times it has been used make it any less true?>>

Not necessarily, though in this case, yes. Not only is the networking market changing almost daily, so too the sentiment within the ADSL sector. A year ago Mr. Seaman's remark might have been valid. Today, it's not even close. The UBS figures for North America were about 10 to 1 in favor of DMT. H&Q in its January '97 Networking report, says, "We see both the ASND IDSL and the PairGain HDSL technologies a displacing the CAP based technologies. While the CAP-based technologies served as a good interim solution until the DMT-based ADSL became marketable, we believe that the window of opportunity for continuing the privileged sanctuary heretofore afforded CAP-based ADSL solutions is quickly coming to an end."

Neither the vintage of a remark nor the times it's been repeated determine its validity. Ask anyone who's been married a few years.

Regards,

Pat
