Where do you get this stuff from? I know of no data saying that the the FAtomO2 has ever been 38% during the history of man. I do know, however, that high concentrations of 02 are toxic; lung damage begins in 24 hours with exposure to over 50%. I have actually seen speculative articles that even 21% is a bit toxic, and that we would all be better off somewhere around 17%, but, as I say, speculative.
The reason that warriors could run 100 miles is that they did. Its called conditioning. They didn't wake up one day and run 100 miles. They ran maybe one mile when they were 5, started running 5 miles chasing game when 10 or 12, all the time.

Partial pressure of O2 at sea level is 159.0 mm Hg. This is 20.84% of the atmosphere, not 19%.
