It's a big stinky racket those deregulation forces.

Was deregulating phone service a bad thing? (Compare phone prices and telecommunications choices then versus now)

Was deregulating airlines a bad thing? (Air fares went down by a huge amount, choices dramatically expanded, and the losers were airlines who found it difficult to make money)

I think the challenge is to deregulate in a manner which creates a competitive market that innovates and cuts costs while preserving regulation in those areas where it makes the most sense to protect the public good (the best example being environmental protection which prevents companies from profiting at the expense of the environment). To say that all regulation is bad or deregulation is a "big stinky racket" is meaningless without discussing facts about what has worked and what hasn't and why.
