'987 ruling is a non-event

Art, yes, I believe it is a non-event.
Lexar Media has already designed around '987.
Everyone and his brother makes CompactFlash.
Even Lexar Media has had to go after competitors
one blow at a time and are their royalties any
better for the effort? No, I don't think so.

The ruling has nothing to do with flash chip design.

I gave up on '987 after the Lexar debacle and all
the bad press that Lexar wanted to spread about
whether or not the CF standard was proprietary
(proprietary to SNDK, that is)
or an intentionally open standard created for
the benefit of all making CF compatible items.

At this point the CompactFlash story and '987 are
water under the bridge. The future is card form
factors other than CF and the cell phone market.

Your assessment of SNDK's market cap has nothing
to do with today's court ruling. SNDK will have a
blow-out quarter because of the sale of one of its
holdings, the favorable (temporary) tax rate, the
build up of inventories by flash purchasers going
into the Christmas quarter, and because of the benign
pricing environment. Obviously Q4 is seasonally strong.

They will also unveil a spotless balance sheet
with a billion in cash plus other holdings.

I think there is some uncertainty in 2004.
I think the stock price is toppy.
Do we disagree?
