The more you get into it John, I think the more you will agree that "Spec Ed" is the biggest disaster in Education. Good intentions gone bad. Well, we do step on one another's toes and sometimes we do so without knowing we are doing it. My youngest is a special ed teacher in NYC. They do absolutely wonderful things. We just spent a fascinating brunch with she and her husband Sunday morning listening to the way it's individualized in terms of analysis and then turned into a fascinating education program. Some of the most creative teaching practices I've ever heard about. But then, it's my daughter and her colleagues.
