I for one do not want socialized medicine in this country, and as far as what's a fair price, it might seem like I'm asking for draconian cuts, but I think just the opposite.

I just want the average consumer to know what they are getting when they buy healthcare. I can accept 11K for surgery, but not $50 for an aspirin, and I'd like to know what I paid for-- even if it's the insurance company's money.

I just tend to think that it's very hard to negotiate a bill with your doctor, 1) when you were referred by the insurance company, and 2) when it's after the fact, 3) when the provider has failed to mention that he's going to bill you more than your insurance will pay for---AND--- there are better, and cheaper options available and 4) he's going to recover the maximum amount he can recover from the insurance company irrespective of what the actual cost of that treatment is for the average patient.
