Turn it around. What title or deed do the Israelis have?
The Israeli's title comes from God (so they say), and their deed issues from the barrels of their tanks.
In Alaska, the Natives didn't have legal title to the lands they had occupied for the last 20,000 years. The Russians sealers, and then the American whalers, and then the Gold Rush miners, they acted as if the Natives had no right to any land. They took what they wanted, ignored peaceful protests, and responded with massive violence to violent protests. Like the Israelis, they could get away with this arrogance, because they had the guns.
Since then, we've gotten more civilized, and acknowledged Native title to much of their lands. On public land (most of the State), Natives have the right to do subsistence fishing and hunting. And the Alaskan Natives didn't even have to fight an Intifada, to get their rights to (part) of the land recognized.
When you demand that Arabs (or Native Americans) meet a standard that is foreign to their culture, you are finding an excuse to steal. |
