Thinking logically, that now notorious fan didn't give up all those subsequent hits, make an error at shortstop, or walk anyone... which led to all those runs. Thinking as a baseball fan, however, I do see how little things like that can really get a team going. How many times have we seen a game change on a batted ball that ricochets off the base, a blown call, or an error on a routine play? I think it's probably because ballplayers are so superstitious. Consider how the Marlins went on to beat the Giants after Cruz dropped that easy pop fly. So, sad to say, I do see how fans probably really do think the fan cost the Cubs the game and possibly a trip to the Series.
