OK. Went back and read the stuff again. Still seems to me that freedom of religion is up to the task of supporting those decisions without any help from freedom of conscience.

Given that I have a vested interest in garnering as much as I can to protect the non-religious, it would be natural for me to embrace freedom of conscience as an additional armament. I sure don't want to discourage anyone from using it on my behalf. We non-believers need all the help we can get in a hostile world. But it would be intellectually dishonest of me to assert that freedom of conscience buys me anything that I wouldn't have without it. I just don't see it.

In the abstract, freedom of conscience is broader than freedom of religion. In the real world, though, under the US Constitution, seems to me that freedom of conscience is redundant.
