Birim Goldfields Inc.: Progress Report on Current Drilling of the Tombe-Parabu Gold Occurrence, New Gold Target Identified
Wednesday October 15, 8:53 am ET
MONTREAL, CANADA--Birim Goldfields Inc. (BGI: TSX) ("Birim") wishes to provide its shareholders with an update of the ongoing reverse circulation ('RC') drilling program on the extensive Tombe-Parabu gold occurrence lying within the 7,000 square kilometre Bui District group of concessions, located in west-central Ghana.
Fifty-eight reverse circulation drill holes, totaling 4,000 metres, have now been completed and an additional twenty-seven holes remain to be drilled. It is anticipated that the entire eight-five hole programme will be completed by early November. Approximately 1,000 samples, representing 4-metre composites, have already been sent to Transworld Laboratories in Tarkwa, Ghana. An interim report will be issued once the assay results for the first half of the programme have been received and interpreted.
Twelve new trenches, totaling 3,660 metres, are planned for the Tombe North and Tombe South anomalies as well as along the northern extension of the Tombe North anomaly. The objective of the trenching program, which is progressing concurrently with the drill program, is to identify additional drill targets over the entire five kilometre strike of the robust +180 parts per billion gold-in-soil anomaly. To date, one 350-metre trench (line 24,200N) has been completed and steady progress is being made on a second trench, 200 metres further north (line 24,400N), despite seasonal rains. These two trenches are located on the Tombe South target, which has not yet been drill tested.
Kuri Project - Another New Gold Target Identified: Originally identified during Birim's early stream sediment geochemical survey and limited soil sampling program, the Kuri target is presently host to the largest concentration of galamsey (artisanal) miners within the entire Bui District. The gold occurrence is hosted within the Dixcove suite granitoids similar to Ashanti's Ayanfuri mine. A base camp has been constructed and logistics are in place to begin the work program when the seasonal rains subside. Work will initially focus on extending the present soil grid followed by trenching and RC drilling.
Concurrent with the ongoing Tombe-Parabu drilling program, intensive fieldwork is also being directed towards the preparation of several other drill targets. To this end, Birim, through the consulting firm RSG Global, has upwards of 100 field personnel performing trenching and sampling operations so as to efficiently define the best areas for the next phases of drilling. Continued drilling operations are foreseen over the next several months with up to several thousand metres of drilling planned.
