also that Kennedy especially had expressed to friends his desire to get out sometime after the 1964 election.

Kennedy was supposedly planning withdrawal without victory, though his public and private record is an unblemished pattern of denouncing that goal. The removal of those 1000 advisors was a total red herring.

It's the same old story - another liberal trying to preserve Kennedy's image. I especially like him complimenting Kennedy for not invading Cuba in 1962. How very kind of Kennedy! -g-
