Kerry Connects “As No Other Candidate Did” in Phoenix Debate

Over 350 cheering supporters got cheered John on in Phoenix last Thursday, boosted by a cadre of firefighters who have been turning out en masse all around the country.

Once again, Kerry delivered a strong debate performance and looked as presidential as ever.

Of the Democrats, Sen. John Kerry and retired Gen. Wesley Clark are Bush's most serious competition. Both nudged ahead of Bush in the CNN/USA Today poll. A Kerry-Clark ticket would be formidable.

The New York Times:

Mr. Kerry followed by citing a favorite personal detail. "When I was serving in Vietnam on a small boat, the one thing I learned was nobody asked you where you came from," he said. "You fought together, you lived together and you bled together."

"Every single one of us up here would believe we're tired of hearing Tom DeLay and Dick Cheney and others throw patriotism at us," Mr. Kerry said. "We're taking back the flag for the United States of America."

* Dean's lead in NH has been more than cut in half since AUgust. 10% is the most recent Boston Globe poll. But some 30% are undecided. Kerry just picked up more endorsements in NH, 3 out of four state senators now back him there plus the Shaheens who delivered the state twice before for their candidate.
