Re: So are you suggesting the Brussel Sprouts model as the New Republic?

No! Actually I praise the US's cooptative model versus Europe's segregative one... Two years ago, I was pessimistic over Europe's future --hence my pet theory on "the Byzantine Alliance" between the EU, Russia and Israel. Well, although I still believe in that scenario, the occupation of Iraq by the US prompted me to consider another scenario, that is, the rise of Judeofascism in America instead of Europe. For that matter, such a development was envisioned by David Yallop in his novel, "Unholy Alliance"... Moreover, it's supported by the French precedent in Algeria: both France and the US are/were democracies with similar histories (both had revolutions in the XVIIIth century...), and both are/were faced with the challenge of colonial occupation in Arab countries (Algeria and Iraq). So, as we put it in French, les mêmes causes produisant les mêmes effets, I expect the US to undergo the same troubles as France in the 1950s. However, the French establishment perfectly understood the potential danger Algérie Française was to metropolitan France, namely, the "fascization" of France... I guess that's why President Ch. De Gaulle never called the rebellious General R. Salan a "man of peace"!! Contrariwise, Ariel Sharon, the Israeli Salan, is deemed a man of peace by Prez G.W. Bush!

Perhaps, US elites --Republican/rightist elites-- are overconfident about America's resilience... They believe that the US is strong enough not to fall into fascism... They think that the current Islamo- and Arabophobic hysteria will eventually peter out just like McCarthyism did fifty years ago and that America will remain a universal beacon of freedom... and they might just be wrong.
