The distrust (not hatred) is aimed against Bushies not America. I was working in Europe at the time of the Bush-Gore election night. The entire continent seemed depressed when Bush came out the "winner". It was amazing. They follow American politics closely. They loved Clinton. He brought the world together and that's one reason we had such marvelous prosperity under him. Once Bush was "elected" the Euros sensed a dark gloomy period ahead. They were right.
