They are not merely testing sincerity of belief. They are also testing whether or not there is a compelling state interest in restricting or overriding it. Thus, there are restrictions on animal sacrifice, and no court in the country would permit child sacrifice. The point is not that freedom of conscience is a trump, but that it must be treated with especial care........
