=DJ AMD CFO Says Company Saw Improved Athlon Pricing In 3Q

By Mark Boslet Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES (This article was originally published Thursday.)

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Dow Jones)--Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) will ship hundreds of thousands of Athlon 64 chips in its fourth quarter, a substantial increase from the third quarter, Chief Executive Hector Ruiz said.

Speaking on a conference call with analysts Thursday, Ruiz said the company had shipped tens of the thousands of the chips it introduced on Sept. 23 in the third quarter.

The introduction of Athlon 64 helped the company increase its average microprocessor selling price in the third quarter "significantly," said Chief Financial Officer Robet Rivet. He didn't offer an actual price.

AMD separately said it expects growth of 10% to 15% in the PC market during the fourth quarter.
