I just read an article in this week's FORBES (page 45, "China Syndrome"). The gist of it is not to blame China for our woes.
What is a bit unnerving is that the author says that Mayo Clinic is now e-mailing x-rays and MRIs to Bangladore, so that lower-salaried diagnostic doctors can be used. There is no choice but to get ever-better education for all Americans, or we will be left behind in the dust of the global economy.
A hundred years ago most people in the US made their living in agriculture. It was inconceivable that even high school graduation would be required to get a job. Now we are on the brink of needing a college education for even a modest job.
This (getting a good education)is certainly not the most wasteful focus of a country's resources.
