' he'd become well Ottawashed' - lol, yes you don't hear that much anymore
Moderation in tone is maybe a quintessentially canadian quality, and necessary .... we are not interested in bloody revolution, rather inclined to an evolutionary approach ..... Reform came across as radical to those at the time who were not watching what was actually happening, and instead only listening for tone .... and it was radical, in so many ways - there were still albertans shouting let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark, it hadn't been so long since Peeair's NEP at the time ..... pent-up demand for rolling heads, well that's understandable, and still exists of course, but you can't shout at canadians, it won't get you anywhere
Can't push the river ...... the Liberal machine works so effectively because they paddle with the flow - they've always robbed policies of others, after initial opposition they stole Tommy Douglas' medicare and called it their own, same with Mulroney's NAFTA, they ran with that, even to the point of leaving in the utterly demented Chapter 11, and letting the US get away with murder of the forest industry
... every time i get on this train of thought, i think oh boy, wouldn't this make a fine country with an eastern border at Lake of the Woods, or maybe just west of Saskatoon ..... a people gets the government it deserves .... all this is apropos of nothing specific to the moment, just musing on a rainy day and putting off fixing the shed roof [wow, from cynicism directly to apathy, how canehjun eh, lol] ..... cheers |
