Pete I believe the rate is the same regardless of whether its short term or long term. A capital gain is a capital gain. You pay the taxes on it in the year you realize the gain. You pay on 75% of the gain at whatever your tax rate happens to be in that particular year.

You can apply any losses against those gains. You can also carry your loses back 3 years or forward indefinitely.
