<<Whether you like it or not, the Arab states ignored the UN division and attacked Israel.>> ...And whether you like it or not the Jewish refugees ignored the rules of the British Mandate (set up by the LEague of Nations) which halted all Jewish immigration because of escalating Jewish-Arab conflict. Not to mention ignoring the laws against terrorism. ...Or maybe I should justify the Arab response a la the Chicken-Hawks - teh Arab war was to pre-empt the displacement of the native Palestinian population - something that was against the UN rules as well.
As for the crap about - they are tribal, they believe in revenge - let me remind you that "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" is old testament and common to both cultures. Which is why every time there is a suicide bombing there is a cabinet meeting to draw up a response. ...Yes - Israel is founded by European Jews and so there is an abhorance to bulk civilian casualties. But not so much that they worry about a bit of "collateral damage".
<<That difference, is not subtle nor inconsequential as you state: >>. ...Trust me Fred - the agony, the pain, the grief is the same whether the cause of death is a spontaneous act of violence (Arab riots), a suicide bomber, or "colateral damage".
Palestinians dancing after 9-11, not Israelis? ...In point of fact there was a group of Israeli's who were videotaped on 9-11 dancing with joy as the towers came down. They were filmed, reported, and detained by the FBI and subsequently expelled from the country. ...The reason why they were celebrating - because they felt that it would bring the US closer to their cause against the Palestinians. ...Not to mention Perez, Sharon, and Barak on all the US news network that night hawking the same message - "It's terrible, now you know how we suffer, we must make them (all) pay for this". Personally I found it very offensive that they would dare to campaign for their agenda during those initial hours of overwhelming grief.
There are no innocents here. And it is foolishness to argue that one side is better than the other when, in fact their fate is a shared one. ...Now, imagine what would have happened if the early settlers came in with the intention of helping their distance cousins to make Palestine a better place instead of just claiming their right of return under the British Mandate? I fhtey had integrated into the existing community instead of trying to carve out their own community? ...Maybe there would not have been the Arab riots, and then Palestine wouldn't have been closed to immigration during the genocide, and the Middle East would have seen flourishing democracies in Palestine and in Lebanon. And Jerusalem would have beena major cultural/religious center with a multitude of visitors from around the world. ...If you can imagine that they you can begin to uderstand what heaven would have been like and why, instead, Israeli's and Palestinians are trapped in hell - and blaming each other for their mutual suffering. |
