Jake, consider this... consider the Yankees didn't score in the 11th. Do you bring Mariano back in for the 12th? In case you weren't keeping track, the Yankees only had Weaver, Contreras, White and Pettitte from which to choose. Weaver is only on the roster if the Yankees are getting crushed and they need someone to take one for the team. He's consistently been like throwing gas on a fire. The other three had pitched and faltered badly the night before and were likely still somewhat tired not to mention of questionable confidence. Yet, Mariano had thrown 47 pitches and his three innings were the longest he's gone since 1996. Certainly if Mariano had gone and given up the eventual game winning hit to Boston, Torre could have been subjected to the same criticism as Little for leaving in Pedro. As an extra bit of information, Mariano was quoted as saying he wasn't tired and wanted the ball. So, would you, as manager, have given it to him?
