| I have never been a Trotskyite. I have never formally been a Zionist, and certainly not a prospective Israeli. In fact, I have not even visited Israel. Ethnically, I am not even wholly Jewish, since my mother is Anglo- Italian. I was raised, in childhood, a Conservative Jew, and, after my parents divorce, a Roman Catholic. I think of myself, religiously, primarily as a lapsed Catholic. I went to St. John's College, and spent my time reading Plato, Aristotle, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Kant, and other luminaries of Western Civilization. My primary concern for Israel is the avoidance of another Holocaust, and although I have read around in Judaica, I know Thomas Aquinas better than the Talmud........ |
