I think the elderly are ripping off the young in terms of tax strategy in the US so I don't really agree with your "we had to walk 20 miles to school" analogy. Just FYI.

If the older folks want to lecture the younger generation about wanting everything now, they should try to figure out how to fund their own medical care and tax cuts, and in Californias case, their own police and fire costs and other state provided services, rather than lump their costs onto their kids, which is the typical MO. I am 40 so my generation is a bit of the problem but the people that work for me are oh-so-screwed by my parents generation.
